Cable TV

Rogers TV has an initiative called Wave (ex Cablelink) which will give users a 500kbit/s connection through a cable modem. Vancouver should get its cable system made bi-directional this year and get connected early 1997. A pilot project is underway in Ontario. See Roger's Website, or perhaps Here (wave.ca).

While I'd heard from Rogers a few months ago that the service operates at 400kbps bi-directionally, I've read somewhere that it will be asymmetrical, with a slower upload time, making it less attractive to run a business such as a Website at home.

Fairview Technology Centre in Oliver are now offering 500kbps CableLAN service.

In theory, the Cable modems can offer much higher bandwidth - up to 36Mbps with new modems. Presumeably the system would jam upstream if too many people were given this kind of access.
