Metadata Links - Examples

This page is a demo for the Internet draft draft-daviel-metadata-link-00.txt.

See here for an HTML version.

Here is a map of Barkley Sound. This GIF image has a forward Link using an HTTP header to one schemeless HTML metadata page, and two schemed pages: Dublin Core metadata and FGDC metadata (text/sgml).

The three metadata pages have reverse links to the GIF resource. A simpler example with two metadata links is shown below.

In resource discovery, the forward links have priority over the reverse links. This enables the creator of a resource (who can create forward links) to control the associated metadata and ensure it is current.

An HTTP HEAD request for the resource typically produces the following:

HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Date: Mon, 09 Jun 1997 18:21:29 GMT
Server: Apache/1.2b8
Link: <http://vancouver-webpages.com/ml/ch4.1.2.H.html>; rel="META" , <http://vancouver-webpages.com/ml/ch4.1.2.DC.html>; rel="META"; scheme="DC" , <http://vancouver-webpages.com/ml/ch4.1.2.sgml>; rel="META"; scheme="FGDC"
