Hi Wayne,
there are actually a few things you need to do to get this working
1. dns mx records (unless you are specify you machine address as in the
email record).
2. sendmail will have to be checked out for your smtp process.
3. don't bother with POP3. It's an old , discontinued server. Search for
qpopper instead ... it's free, eudora built it and it has all the newer
features which Netscape and Microsoft pop clients are using.... trust me
otherwise it will be a headache !!!

ipopd from Washington University
ftp://ftp.cac.washington.edu/mail/imap-4.BETA.tar.Z they have a pop
server as well included called ipopd.
