EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS USING 56 kbps PACKET RADIO
Peter Anderson, VE7PSA
Simon Fraser University
Voice communications are a relatively inefficient way to pass
information following a natural disaster. Peter and his
collaborators at Industry Canada, BC Hydro, and members of the
Faster! amateur radio group have begun to deploy a 56 kbps TCP/IP
network in the Lower Mainland which will provide a more effective
and efficient alternative. Peter will review the work conducted
to date, demonstrate some of the capabilities of the system, and
discuss how members of the Linux and Amateur Radio communities
can get involved.
