CVS => ssh help

I have volunteered to maintain a CVS on a remote machine and
have to log in with ssh. Logging in and working via telnet
is not a problem(although slow via internet).

My question is, how do I "checkout" the files to my home
machine and work on them locally and copy the files back to
the main cvs to commit them to the tree.

I am using a dial up connection with a dynamic ip address.

Any ideas are appreciated.
