Linux has functioned flawless as a DHCP/DNS server and I am now
currently trying to promote Linux as an IntraNet platform for our
company (Whistler/Blackcomb).
It will be used for standard http services, Java apps and run an SQL
server(PostgreSQL). My manager who makes the final call on what we go
with was impressed by such things as Webmin web administration,, PHP/FI
, the fact that it speaks pretty much every network protocol, the many
web utilities, and that there are no license restrictions. However, he
wants to be convinced that Linux is ready for mission critical,
heavy-duty production use, and that there are other companies using it
(DHCP is not exactly resource intensive...). While I have every
confidence that Linux can work for us, I am also the only guy in our
department who has ever used Linux (and am one of the junior guys in my
department and also one of the few who are NOT pro NT) and so my words
alone aren't enough. Does anyone have personal experience or know of
larger companies that are using it for mission critical stuff,
preferably what I want to use it for?. Any comments or articles on this
would be greatly appreciated........
Thanks,
James
