Can't see this on the Web; it's page 106 of the March issue.
Briefly:
Digital Unix - blazing fast disk I/O, tcp/ip stack
64 bit - keep website in RAM
SMP
OpenLinux - simple, robust. Terminated ungracefully on disk, hardware
errors. Netscape FastTrack Server 2.0 no good for dynamic HTML
or 3-tier Web applications (whatever they are - ad)
Installation almost wholly manual - swap space, X config etc.
NT - liked ASP scripting, transaction processing, management console, 3rd
party dev. tools. .. Unfortunately, NT seems unable to withstand machine
checks, disk space exhaustion .. you'll need to keep an eye on it ...
(our) NT servers occasionally go down, but Unix machines have never
failed. NT suitable for 3-tier apps, as long as 24x7 uptime isn't
required.
OpenLinux 1.1 sold for $399, NT Server for $809, Solaris $695
