Diagnosing "helper app spawn" errors with Netscape 4

Before I go way off track here, I'd like to doublecheck this error
message, and possibly prevent a large waste of time.

When I try to run "helper apps" from Netscape (if I'm even lucky enough
to have it notice the mimecap entry), I get an error like this:

sh: -c: line 1: missing closing ')' for arithmetci expression
sh: -c: line 1: syntax error near unexpected token ';'
sh: -c: line 1: '((/usr/local/bin/rvplayer /tmp/<filename>); rm /tmp/<filen=
ame>) &'

My sh is a symlink to bash, which as far as I understand it is plug
compatible to sh... so why is bash choking on the syntax?

I'm currently running Debian, if that's relevant.

Any advice on taming Netscape 4 would be much appreciated!

Jason
