CD-R Under Linux

Hello. I've recently installed RedHat 5.0 on a system here, but I'm
having a little trouble figuring out how to work the writable CD-R.
I've never done this sort of thing before, so please bear with my
ignorance.

I can mount the drive read-only at the moment, but whatever I do to
fstab with cabaret, mount insists that the device is write-protected.
I would like to be able to copy CDs from the CD-ROM to the CD-R, as well
as simply copy directories, etc. stratight from the hard drive. Is
there some sort of software I should have to do this properly? Is there
a CD-R HOWTO? Thanks for your responses.
