We had another great turnout for our meeting last night. And the
post-meeting discussions went on until after 10 pm....
1. Many of you have expressed interest in earning your basic amateur
radio operator's certificate by taking the UBC Amateur Radio Society's
weekend course. Accordingly, I would like to start collecting your
names so we can get something arranged. Please let me know!
2. Thanks for letting me know what kind of topics you would be
interested in hearing about at future meetings. A partial list
includes:
1. The K Destop Environment
2. Demo: Mac Emulators for Linux (Executor and others?)
3. Demo: The GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program)
4. Tutorial: ScriptView - The GIMP's scripting language
5. Configuring a Linux box as an Internet Gateway
6. High Speed Internet Access: The Wave and ADSL
7. Parallel Processing: PVM (Parallel Virtual Machine) and
Extreme Linux (The Beowulf Project)
8. Setting up a 9.6kbps Amateur Packet Radio Node
9. Tips and Tricks for Configuring and Customizing Your
X Server.
Others? In any case, special thanks to those of you who offered to
*give* talks on some of these topics :-) Keep those requests (and
offers to fill the requests or present on a topic of interest to you)
rolling in....
