TRIUMF, home of the world's largest cyclotron , uses several Linux
workstations for data analysis using the CERN software library, for
calculation using Mathematica and Physica, and
for scientific word processing using LaTeX. Many of TRIUMF's partners in
High Energy Physics such as CERN, Fermilab, DESY and KEK already use Linux
for data acquisition and analysis; the HERMES collaboration operates a
cluster of 10 dual Pentium Pro computers running Linux . The new ISAC
facility at TRIUMF is anticipated to use Linux workstations running MIDAS
for real-time data acquisition in conjunction with VME front-ends running
VxWorks.
