Help with Modules - RedHat 5.1

After carefully considering the presentation on networking at the last
meeting I decided to use 2 NICs in my Linux server rather than have the
cable from the ADSL modem go straight to my hub. This server is
running RedHat Linux 5.1.

I recently added this second NIC which is exactly the same as the first
one (3com5o9b-tpo). So all I did was modify /etc/conf.modules to add the
new NIC. Now when i run /sbin/depmod -a I get the following:
"modprobe: not an ELF file" -- This also appears when i reboot the
system, although the system works fine.

Then I tried the following:

# file /sbin/modprobe

/sbin/modprobe: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1,
dynamically linked, stripped

and

# file /lib/modules/2.0.35-2/net/3c509.o

/lib/modules/2.0.35-2/net/3c509.o: ELF 32-bit LSB relocatable, Intel
80386, version 1, not stripped

I would certainly appreciately some guidance as to what to do next?

Thanks in Advance
