It really depends. My /lib on both machines is almost 12.5 MB.
However, that's RH 5.1 with modules for several custom kernels,
therefore, /lib/modules/* (and RH-specific /lib/security/*) really add
up to 'du'. OTOH, on say Slackware or a do-it-yourself system with
monolithic kernel it may very well be around 7MB. On my 1.44MB rescue
boot disk /lib is only 3MB when it's uncompressed and mounted in RAM
after startup but it only has essentials.
