I donated my Goldstar x32 eide CD-ROM drive to a worthy cause, and
bought an Acer x49 eide uDMA CD-ROM drive, with enhanced Digital Audio
Extraction, and CD-RW capability.
Bought it for $115 from Bestop Computers, 4058 Cambie Street.
Difference between this unit and the Goldstar is like night and day.
The Acer claims on the carton to have high-speed audio extraction and it
certainly lives up to that claim with CDPARANOIA 8., Hardly ever any
errors + marks, and full speed extraction at about x3 or so. None of
this line full of crosses that I used to get on my Goldstar. No cache,
but a 64K buffer. Don't seem to miss the lack of cache in performance.
