Well, I brought home a SuSe 5.2 demo disk and installed it on my main
workstation last night. It seems reasonable, though the install was a
bit too user interaction intensive for my tastes. Under Slackware I
generally install pretty much everything in batch mode, then remove the
few packages I don't want later. Maybe I could do the same with SuSe,
but it was not obvious.
I've installed RedHat other places, and I'm sure it's great for newbies,
but except for being able to install directly off an ftp site, I didn't
see much advantage for me personally. I may try Debian off the net once
I've got ADSL.
With SuSe I'm getting wierd X problems with one or two binaries. The
main problem is that my xfaces display is all screwed up. I've tried
recompiling under SuSe, but no joy. Well, except for the speed of
building on a ramdisk, that's moderately joyful. :)
Brian.
