I managed to get ahold of a couple of NE2500T Novell ethernet cards and am
in the process of setting up a little lan between my Linux machine and my
GF's Win95.
The cards are identical in every respect, and when I installed the card in
the win95 machine it detected it beautifully. Linux is a different matter.
I don't have a whole lot in the way of documentation, I have no idea
whether this card is NE2000 compatible, but when I look at dmesg I get
"ne.c: No NE*000 card found at i/o = 0xXXX" (XXX being each of the i/o
addresses.
I've tried editing lilo.conf with append="ether=10,0x300,eth0" with no
success.
Also tried in conf.modules:
alias eth0 ne
options ne io=0x300 (and a few other numbers)
with even less success if possible.
I'm running a brand new install of Redhat (a friend did it for me, with my
HD in his machine, so he originally selected a 3com card).
I don't have a clue on how to recompile the kernel, so if I can avoid that
I'd like it. Any other way to find out if this is supported by my kernel,
and if not, what to do?
Thanks,
Greg
