More info on arrangements for COMDEX, based on an e-mail discussion with
CLUE:
1. When the booth assignment is finalized, we'll be given a designated
move-in time; sometime Saturday Jan 9 or Sunday Jan 10.
2. We'll want to have as much help as possible at move-in (and also at
move-out, at the end of the day on Wednesday the 13th. The faster we can
get in and out, the easier it'll be on everyone.
3. There are issues to do with moving in equipment and the Centre's local
unions (who don't want any non-union people moving stuff into the show
floor).
CLUE will brief us on "workarounds" in due course.
4. As for the show itself, CLUE recommends that we split each day into two
shifts, and have enough volunteers so that we have *at least* five to six
people on hand for each shift. One of these should be someone who is
designated to speak on behalf of the group if there are any problems.
5. CLUE recommends that *ONE* person with a backup, not more, should be
responsible for logistics; making sure the booth has the phone, electrical,
and other services actually installed as ordered. This person will probably
need to be at the convention centre all day Sunday, and again at takedown,
and should be prepared to use a credit card for expenses (which will later
be reimbursed).
6. We won't have the time or space to give presentations at COMDEX.
However, we *WILL* invite people to a post COMDEX event. The VanLUG
monthly meeting, which is scheduled for the following Monday, might provide
a suitable venue for a set of presentations on "Linux in Business: Samba,
Apache, and SendMail" or similar. Another InstallFest is also a
possibility.
