The backslash tells the mail software to deliver to the specified
user without checking that user's .forward file.
Some systems may not require the backslash, but they should still allow
it.

If your hard drive crashes, perhaps you have a recent backup. If Earth
crashes, what then? We need off-site backup: Luna, L5, Mars, wherever.
