In follow up to your discussion, I would like to discuss how FVLUG has
handled this.

Originally one of George's posts started a long thread way off tangent
and not on the scope of the FVLUG list. It came to a point where in
private, I was getting some very "upset" list members. To resolve the
issue I had a vote on the list, to a) Allow such postings (b) Not allow
such postings (c) Create a new list called fvlug-annouce for
announcements and postings such as this. The vote was to allow such
postings, but NOT to allow follow ups to the postings, such as to reply
to it. As well, we agreed that the postings should be Linux-centric, and
should not be done so for profit. Since NetMaster Networking Solutions
runs the list, we could easily use it for our financial gain. We decided
that it was not the focus of the list to do so, and that no one should
use the list in that manner.

In essence, we agreed friends can post job postings, however recruiters
could not, since they make MONEY doing this, and there are LOTS of news
groups for employment opportunities. George and I agreed that if he
first sent me a posting, I would decide if it would be a viable
opportunity for our list members, in which case, I would then allow him
to post it. The extra level of screening seemed to be the way point to
allow the list to function and get the best of both worlds, without
becoming an avenue of constant job postings. And to my knowledge,
everyone is happy with this approach.

I believe George's company is one that can be a lot of help in
Unix/Linux job placement. It would be a shame to see it get into trouble
on lists for bad posts, and hopefully this is being rectified. I urge
everyone to consider the fact it was not meant to be damaging, but
helpful to the list. Unfortunately, netiquette got the best of everyone.
