Well, IP Masquerade is really just a subset of NAT, which might more
properly called PAT (port address translation). When IP Masq. was written
was around the same time as RFC 1631 (1994), and the author may not have
been familiar with the term. Anyhow his name stuck.
In any case, what's the big deal about the name? The BSD'ers (and everyone
else) can call it NAT and the Linuxers can call it IP Masq. Each OS has
its idiosyncracies in terminology.
("Now wouldn't it be a real drag if we were all the same" [anyone remember
what song that came from?]).
