In 2.0.35 and 2.1.125 the results are the same.
The screen locks up and once the pending disk actions have
subsided the machine grinds to a halt. I know the cpu isn't
being used because the fan pitch changes when the cpu is being
used heavily(whoever thought that might come in handy?).
Also the ifconfig command hangs for about 5 seconds, taking
up 100% of the idle cpu and then spits out the correct
output. The crashes are (as yet) non-reproduceable.
I'm using softdog but that doesn't work either.
This machine is 2 years old and has crashed about
10 times(in linux that is) until a week ago, where it's crashed about 20
times.
Well, I'm at a loss here. I think it's time for new hardware.
But what hardware? I have no idea what's funked up here.
The only thing I can think of that I was playing with a week
ago was the new 2.1.125 (frame buffers) and I set the bios
to auto-detect hds instead of manual detect.
Thanks for any insight.
