Automatic DNS IP address

I've recently got Netscape on Suse 5.0 Linux talking to
internet gateway, but to do it I had to enter the numerical IP
address of their DNS. The PPP howto says this is necessary, but
I've heard it (entering the numeric address) can be avoided in
Linux, as it is in Windows 95.

Can someone point me to instructions on how to do this?
