A month ago I encountered a system that froze up exactly after 4
minutes plus minus 1 minute after a startup. But did not do so
in text-based mode. I swapped memory, CPU, motherboard... until
I reached videocard. Two years old PCI S3 with 2MB RAM. Crashes
stopped. Put in into another machine and that box started
freezing too. Touched the card - it's almost boiling
temperature. Check it out - that's what may be happening to
yours too?
