The only problem I find with non-Intel processors is that I get some
signal 11 errors.. I have an AMD-K6 233 MHz and it runs really hot (the
hottest chip in its class). After replacing the memory and motherboard,
and reading about got chips causing sig11's, I've pinned down the
problem to the AMD chip. It works fine under Windows, so I think I'll
use the AMD K6 in the Windows machine and temporarily plug in a Cyrix
PR233 in my Linux system.
If you're looking for a good non-Intel processor to get now, the AMD
K6-2 300 MHz is a good contender, at a great price (less than $200
Canadian).
