As the person who wrote the original "FP performance" message, I'd
like to point out that running an Alpha is not an option for many
people, including my wife. She also needs to run the usual Microsoft
stuff for compatibility with clients: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.
For these, a PowerPC Mac is the only other real alternative.
Same for most Adobe software (Photoshop, Acrobat family).

But Matlab no longer supports the Mac. Is there an Alpha version at all?
Similarly, ArcView runs on the Intel architecture only. So even a Mac
is not a viable option.
