Hi everyone. For Installfest 2, we will be needing people to volunteer
as installers to install Linux on the participant's machines. In
addition, we will need some pre-installers to check the machine hardware
before installation.
Installers should have experience installing any Linux distribution,
including Caldera, Debian, Red Hat, and SuSE. It seems that most people
will want Red Hat installed on their system, which is a good choice for
first-time users. It's recommended that installers have experience with
the FIPS partitioning program, and X Window setup. Pre-installers will
need some hardware experience, Windows experience (for checking Windows
hardware settings), and preferably diagnostic tool experience.
We would like any volunteer installers and pre-installers to express
their interest by sending a message to the VanLUG mailing list with the
"PRE-INSTALLER" or "INSTALLER" in the subject. All volunteer installers
and pre-installers are strongly encouraged to come to the Installer
Preparation Meeting, which will be held at 7:00 pm on October 21, in
Brock Hall Annex Room 362 at UBC.
Thank you all for your assistance in making this installfest a
successful one!
Sincerely,
-- Jeff Alami, Senior Consultant Guardian Consulting Services jalami@gcs.bc.ca
