AMATEUR RADIO LICENSING COURSE
If you would like to attend the UBC Amateur Radio Society's Basic
Qualification Course on Saturday, October 24, 1998, please send a
message to <ve7ubc@ee.ubc.ca> with your name, e-mail address, and
telephone number. (Obtaining a basic operator's certificate is pretty
much a prequisite for getting involved in the high speed packet radio
project.)
The course fee is $25 (free for UBC ARS members). Registration starts
at 8:30 am in UBC's Brock Hall Annex Rm 351. The course starts at
9:00 am and lasts until 4:30 pm. Topics covered include: Radio
Regulations; Basic Electronics; Transmitter, Receivers, and Power
Supplies; Station Assembly; Antennas and Transmission Lines; and
Propagation.
We strongly recommend that you purchase a copy of the UBC Amateur
Radio Society's Basic Qualification Manual prior to the course. The
manual is available from the UBC Bookstore, Com-West Radio Systems,
Burnaby Radiocommunications, and Dubberley's on Davie.
We'll have a few copies of the UBC Amateur Radio Society's Basic
Qualification Manual for sale at the InstallFest II prep meeting in
UBC's Brock Hall Annex, Room 362 on Wednesday, October 21, 1998 from 7
- 9 pm. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU INTEND TO COME OUT TO PICK ONE UP.
The certificate exam session will be held on Sunday, October 25 at
1:00 pm. Those who wish to take the exam later in the week can make
special arrangements with the examiner (me).
