JOB SUMMARY:
To be responsible for the planning, development and ongoing management of the
department's computing facilities. Major responsibilities include: maintaining
operation of several Eithernet-TCP/IP LANs; setup and maintain users accounts;
backup and recovery of the department's servers and faculties' workstation;
installing and upgrading operating systems and applications; providing
technical consultation regarding teaching laboratory; maintaining hardware and
software; maintaining various internet services including domain name Server,
electronic mail, WWW, mailing list servers, and Anomymous FTP; providing
technical support and user training; implementing and monitoring network and
system security policies; installing and upgrading cabling and network
infrastructure; make responsible recommendations on computer hardware and
software acquisition; liaising with other departments and service
organizations; and performing other related duties.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
BSc in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Mathematics with
emphasis on operating systems or programming. Minimum two years'
experience in related field. Experience with network administration in a
UNIX environment. Publications, conference presentations or other evidence
of professional development an asset. Ability to programme effectively in
C, perl, sh, and Tel/Tk. Knowledge of a variety of operating systems
including Macintosh System, Microsoft Windows, and Berkeley and
SysV UNIX. Demonstrated expertiese in SUN OS/Solaris system administration.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated
problem-solving, analytical and supervisory skills. Knowledge of, and
experience with, TEL/LATEX or Mathematical software an asset.
