Normally I wouldn't post something like this to the list, but I'm just
too excited I had to tell everyone. :)

I wrote an alternative program to GNU Locate which instead of just
indexing your filesystem as nobody, allows root to index the entire
filesystem, thus getting every file. But when a regular user does a seach
on the database, they will only be shown files that they have access to.
It also fixed a segfault which GNU locate had. It is very secure and you
need root or to be apart of the slocate group in order to get ahold of the
database.

The big news is that Redhat 6.0 has replaced GNU Locate with my Secure
Locate as the default filesytem indexer/searching mechanism.

You can download Secure Locate at:

ftp.mkintraweb.com/pub/linux/slocate/

I just released v1.5, it is available in src form, .deb and .rpm, but
the rpm is still v1.4. I contacted Redhat and should have an update soon.
Hopefully.
