I'm looking to put together a forum on the different Linux distributions
for the next VanLug meeting (May 17).

Many distributions have just released new versions with new and exciting
features. Since we can't all load every distribution, the VanLUG
meeting would be a good way to get an overview of what's happening.

The basic idea is to have someone familiar with each distribution give a
short (5 minutes or less) talk sharing their experience and talking
about the strengths and weaknesses of that distribution and it's latest
features. Then the panel consisting of all the presenters would discuss
issues and respond to questions.

The issues to discuss are:

1) Are the distributions evolving closer together or further apart?
2) What is the best distribution for specific purposes? Has this
changed with the latest releases?

I am looking for volunteers to represent all the major distributions. It
would be good to get panel members who can present these distributions
in their best light.

If you have recently installed RedHat 6.0 , S.u.S.E. 6.0 or 6.1, Caldera
2.2, Debian 2.1 (slink), or have an active slackware system, please let
me know. Who should I be approaching about each of these distributions?
(feel free to nominate someone else!). Are VanLUG members running other
distributions that we should know about?

I think this could be a fun and informative event that requires minimal
preparation.

Please respond with e-mail direct to me (brianbr@ibm.net).

Thanks.

-Brian
