bogomips rating after kernel compile

Howdy folks, just curious why when i installed RH5.2 on a P5-90 and do a "cat
/proc/cpuinfo" I get 2.55 for the bogompis rating, but when I recompile the
kernel for the box i get a bogomips rating of 1.57.....
