HP CD-RW with Linux

I have been looking into CD-RW drives and am considering an HP SureStore
8100i. Has anyone had any luck using one of these drives with Linux. The
only information I could get out of HP was "Thank you for your interest in
Hewlett-Packard products. The CDRW drives are not tested or supported by HP
under Linux". From my reading it seems they should work, but would like to
confirm before I purchase.
