Welcome to the vanlug mailing list!

Please save this message for future reference. Thank you.

If you ever want to remove yourself from this mailing list, you can send mail to <Majordomo@gweep.bc.ca> with the following command in the body of your email message:

unsubscribe vanlug

or from another account, besides vanlug@vancouver-webpages.com:

unsubscribe vanlug vanlug@vancouver-webpages.com

If you ever need to get in contact with the owner of the list, (if you have trouble unsubscribing, or have questions about the list itself) send email to <owner-vanlug@gweep.bc.ca> . This is the general rule for most mailing lists when you need to contact a human.

Here's the general information for the list you've subscribed to, in case you don't already have it:

This is a discussion list for the Vancouver Linux Users Group, though in reality most any traffic dealing with Linux and Linux users in the Lower Mainland is welcome. Topics not covered well by existing newsgroups (such as Linux in Amateur Radio and scientific computing using Linux) are also welcome.

The list can get pretty busy some days. If all you want is announcments of user group activities without the accompanying chatter, subscribe to vanlug-announce instead. A daily digest of the main list is available with a subscription to vanlug-digest. The list is also available as a newsgroup, vanlug.general, from a number of Lower Mainland providers. If your provider doesn't carry it, you can read and post to it on the news.gweep.bc.ca server.

All subscribers should familiarize themselves with the Mailing List Etiquette FAQ available at: <URL:http://www.gweep.bc.ca/~edmonds/usenet/ml-etiquette.html>

Note that job postings are welcome on the list, but they should first be forwarded to Dave Michelson <dmichelson@ieee.org> for approval.

The list software is configured to only allow subscribers to post freely to the list. If you are not a subscriber, or if you are posting from an address other than the one at which you are subscribed to the list expect some delay before you see your message appear, as it will first go to the list administrator's mailbox for checking. If you expect to post from a non-subscribed address often please let the list administrator know so the server can be configured to recognize you.

The list administrator's address is: <owner-vanlug@gweep.bc.ca>

The Vancouver Linux Users Group home page and the Vancouver Linux Users Mailing List Archive are maintained by Andrew Daviel (andrew@andrew.triumf.ca) at <URL:http://vancouver-webpages.com/vlinux/>

VanLUG meetings are held on the third Monday evening of each month at UBC or BCIT. The details will be posted on the VanLUG home page (and to c.o.l.a., bc.unix, van.general, ubc.general, and ubc.events) about a week before the meeting. Everyone interested in UNIX, GNU, Linux, BSD, etc. is most welcome to attend.
