I just love how people compare I just love how people compare shaw@home, which doesn't run their own
internet connections(they lease from @home), and internet connections(they lease from @home), and rogers@home, which runs
most of their own stuff.

I get the same here. Adsl users from what I've seen have gotten anywhere
from 350KB/sec(I've only seen this once, on business adsl, where we were
in the *same* building as BCTel.

If its a high-speed site, and BCTel's links aren't saturated to whomever
they're peering with, I usually see about 20-180KB/sec. This was from
surrey though.

You still share with BCTel's business customers, along with BCTel's
most dis-agreeable peering 'ideas'. Pretty soon, you'll be sharing with
everyone on` your ISP(since they plan on routing the traffic through to
them. Ever tried to login with PPP over ethernet? Thats what Sympatico
will probably be doing.)

About servers.. Currently this is because BCTel is forking out for the
bandwidth costs. When they switch over to their new mothod of making the
isps pay, You'll probably see a different set of rules depending on the
ISP.

I've only seen a couple downtimes this month. One power failure, and one
upgrade. Both were during times when I really should've been asleep
anyways.

5) Rogers has the one 3Mbit down/500Kb up for the one fee. Its not worth
it for them, since it gives them the added selling point of speed and no
rate-limiations. Most of you don't do stuff that require that much
speed.. I on occasion like downloading stuff and having it max out the
link.

6) Adsl costs the same amount as cable for lower amount of service..

7) I don't see how this applies? Rogers has people that used to
installing high-quality television cable and diagnosing quality problems,
and computer technicians to install and debug any problems you might have.
T1 and T3 customers have different requirements than your avg. home user.

?? I just ran ifconfig and route, then downloading dhcpcd, and fixed my
init scripts.. Working fine since then. If I tell them I'm using a
non-dhcp compatible system, they're supposed to tell me of any IP
changes..

Depends on if you call roger's tech support, or if you get shuttled
through to @home's tech support.. I've generally gotten all of my issues
resolved(ie, they know whats wrong with the network apparently).

I won't say anything about sympatico. That usually means that its not
appropiate for this list =)
