Save-on-Foods, for one. The magazine is wrapped in plastic and costs
C$8.99.
Here's a summary:
Length: 64 pages.
Production quality: Much glossier and much more polished than LJ. (Not
difficult :-|
Target audience: Well, I kept having this strange urge to turn the
volume down....
Signature: "Creative" variations on Tux-like penguins with *very* bad
attitudes.
Advertisements: Lots of full page advertisements from Penguin Computing,
VA Linux, Stormix, NetNation, BRU, Corel, Macmillan Computer Publishing,
Cygnus, and others.
(The ad on the back cover is priceless - a picture of a 50-metre-tall,
happy and smiling, 3-D rendered Tux, as seen by someone looking up from
ground level, about to step on the main Microsoft building on 148th Ave
in Redmond. The caption at the top of the page: "GOOD EVENING MR. GATES,
I'LL BE YOUR SERVER TODAY!")
ToC: Linux Primer * Interview: Trae McCombs (linux.com) * Penguin Got
Game * Networking Nice Guy * Kernel Rebuild * Distribution Dilemma
Depts: Maximum Editor * Disc Page * Letters * News * Ask the Penguin *
12-Step * Pure Lust * LRC * Terminator * Alt.OS * Reviews (Caldera,
SuSE, RH, Deluxe Linux, GIMP, VMWare)
Web sites: Sort of. (Not much content.)

Overall Impression: Quite fun, but a bit expensive. A painless
introduction for absolute newcomers. A bit intense, but sure to crack a
smile on even the most Dilbert-like manager. If it eventually gives LJ
a bit of competition, that's probably a very good thing.
On a related note, PC Upgrade magazine features Linux on the front cover
this month. Two feature stories describe how to assemble a
Linux-compatible PC and how to configure the result. *Very* low-end but
I didn't spot anything obviously wrong in my quick perusal.
