Hi again,

Well, firstly, I wouldn't worry about finding a copy of the new magazine.
London Drugs has plenty of the first (October) issue and that's supposed
to stay on newsstands untill Jan 2000. Try your local newsstand this week
or The Granville Book Company - upstairs.

If they are biased, it's not pronounced and they do seem disposed to kick
all butts equally. They rated Caldera 2.2 a 9, Suse 6.1 a 6, RedHat 6.0 a
7, and Macmilllian Deluxe (Mandrake) an 8.

What I found least impressive is their attitude. Everything is judged
according to its 'kickass' capabilities. Some will find this
entertaining, and in small well measured doses it is, but it's overdone.
In general, I would describe the editorial mindset as that of a T1000 on
steroids - but then it's better to have these people holding keyboards and
joysticks than Uzis.....Nothing like killin' a few zillion polygons before
breakfast to start the day off right, now is there?

What is good about the magazine is its newbie focus. If Vanlug membership
is any indication there's a vast untapped newbie market out there, and
with Maximum Linux they speak to the complete neophyte. For that reason
alone you might want to consider recommending it to your friends who are
'curious' about Linux, but know nothing about unix. I guess we all needed
bootstrapping originally. (Except Dave of course. Rumor (started here) has
it that his umbillical cord was actually a keyboard cable......he wasn't
born as such - he just logged on...:).

Anyway, evangelism, knowledge, and entertainment - they should do well.
The 10 cool things about Linux alone made it worth the $9.00 for me. Let's
hope they keep it up and don't deteriorate like MAXIMUM PC did. Time will
tell.

Bill

As to the possibility of intelligent life in the universe -
I'm convinced they're just like us.
