A while ago, I asked about xv coming up in 24 bit mode when called by
Netscape. Most of the responses suggested that I needed to set the
default colour depth to 8 bits and all would be well.
I am now convinced that the colour depth is at 8 bits (see attached
'xdpyinfo'), but the problem is
still with me: that is, an inline graphic looks 'stippled' when viewd by
xv under netscape, and there
doesn't seem to be a way to default it (xv) to 8 bit mode (that I can
understand).
If I view the same graphic using xv as a stand alone programme, I can
change from 24 to 8 bit mode, and everything looks just fine, as there
are controls to do that very thing.
So... I guess the question is the same: How do you get 'xv' to come up
in 8 bit mode when called by Netscape?
I tried Yakov's script, but had no success.
Thanks,
jerome
