Configuring CD-R[W]

I want to configure my machine to be able to write CD-R's and CD-RW's. I
am running Red Hat 6.0. Do I need to re-compile the kernel? Or can I get
by with just loading the correct kernel modules? If so, which kernel modules
do I need to load? The CD-RW is an HP-8200i if that's relevant.
