This is the way I would do it:
1 - Dupilcate the disk
2 - Move the cables for the new drive to the first IDE port - hda
3 - Reboot using my CDROM distro or emergency floppy
4 - mount /hda
5 - run lilo
This way you don't need to bother with any editing.
