If SSH is all you require, I recommend the PuTTY Windows SSH client
whole-heartedly. www.google.com, type "putty", and click on the first link
that shows up.

If you really don't want to install Linux, no one's forcing you. :)
Really, you should use the tools that will get the job done. Linux happens
to have the best damn toolkit on the planet, I think, but YMMV.

That said, there are a few things you can check to see if your Ethernet card
is working: first, go to a console and type "cat /proc/net/dev". If there is
an entry, like "eth0" in there, then your card _has_ been picked up by the
kernel. If it is not, then you need to load the drivers for it. (drivers
are typically handled, in Red Hat, by kernel modules - type "modprobe -l" to
list available drivers, type "modprobe <module>" to load the module)
If it is listed, as I suspect, then it is most likely a network mis-
configuration. Since you say you're using DSL, odds are you need to set up
a DHCP connection.

I have no experience with this, so I will point you to the HOWTO. :)

Good luck.
