Actually not quite true. Many web hosting companies offer
unlimited bandwidth or no traffic charges. The assumption is that
most web sites get very little traffic. I have done traffic stats on a
pair of web servers hosting over 300 domains, owned by a web
site reseller which handled hosting and web site maintenance for
customers. The traffic barely exceeded 4 GB per month as
measured by MRTG.
If you put a Terabyte web site in an unlimited bandwidth provider's
facilities they will be asking you for more money.
If you have a high traffic site and you are looking for an US provider
be aware that traffic is billed by the mega-bit-per-second using the
95th percentile rule (Level 3 may be 90th percentile). This billing
method can be a major disadvantage if your web site traffic varies
greatly through the day.
