Just recently got myself a portable cdrw drive for my laptop
http://www.archos.com/zone_a/products/product_5.html
Now this unit comes with both USB and Pccard interface, the main reason I
bought it as it allows me to use the cdrw when my single pccard slot is
occupied by something else (wireless modem, nic what-have-you). At least
under windows anyways. You can even get a firewire adaptor for it too so its
a pretty flexible driver. Interestingly enough using 2.2.16 and the usb
backport the drive is detected nicely. However haven't had a chance to try
out the usb mass storage driver to see if it works under linux yet...
But I digress, the unit comes with a 12vDC 1.5A AC power adaptor. When I
spoke with the folks at Archos tech support they advised me the only way to
power this is off the AC adaptor. However I have a portable dvd-rom drive
that can be powered via the pcmcia slot or via the AC adaptor or via the ps/2
keyboard port. Does anyone know if the keyboard port can safely pump out
12vDC at 1.5A? I know it can do that at 5v....
Or failing that, some kind of small regulator unit that I could put between
the ps/2 port and the drive? Note this would only be for use when I have
laptop plugged into AC power.
Thanks
