Summary
Linux is emerging as a dominant technology for servers and embedded
systems. In response, the BlueDrekar project team at IBM Research has
developed what many regard as the definitive Bluetooth stack for Linux.
In this seminar, Jim Rubas will describe IBM's development of BlueDrekar
and share many interesting anecdotes and insights concerning the problem
of turning a protocol from description to working code.
(Bluetooth Wireless Technology seeks to replace plugs and cables with
seamless wireless connectivity using low power, short range spread
spectrum links in the 2.4 GHz band. Bluetooth will supersede IrDA for
connecting laptops to printers, allow laptops to communicate directly
with cellphones, and allow the development of ultimate headsets, LAN
access points, PDA synchronization points, adhoc networking, and even
automotive applications.)
About the BlueDrekar project team:
Part of the Pervasive Security and Networking Department led by Mahmoud
Naghshineh, the BlueDrekar project team has been an active participant
in the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) since its inception in
early 1998. It has led IBM's involvement in the technical activities of
the SIG, and has contributed heavily to the development of the Bluetooth
1.0 specification. Team members have served as editors for the HCI
RS-232 transport and Service Discovery Application Profile (SDAP) parts
of the specification.
