19:40 - 20:20 CVS - The Concurrent Versions System
Curt Sampson <cjs@cynic.net>
cvs is a front end to the rcs(1) revision control system
which extends the notion of revision control from a col-
lection of files in a single directory to a hierarchical
collection of directories consisting of revision con-
trolled files. These directories and files can be com-
bined together to form a software release. cvs provides
the functions necessary to manage these software releases
and to control the concurrent editing of source files
among multiple software developers.
20:20 - 21:00 Linux for the Mac
Rob Thomas <fuzebox@cyberdude.com>
MacUser UK has a good review (3.5 out of 5 stars) of LinuxPPC
Release 4. It says that LinuxPPC 4.0 is "the most stable version
[of Linux for Power Macs] yet," and "It offers a level of power
and performance that AppleShare IP and Mac OS-based
applications can't match for the price." Applix is considering
releasing a version of their office suite for LinuxPPC.
And the latest version of the linux-pmac kernel, 2.1.125, will
boot on an iMac with BootX, and the Ethernet card works. (Now to
get USB drivers figured out so the mouse and keyboard will work.)
No wonder everyone is so excited these days!
