*Anyone* interested in Linux, UNIX, or GNU software is
most welcome to attend. The theme for tonight's meeting
is "Protecting Your Linux Workstation or Server with a
UPS".
(Note: The nearest parkade is the Health Sciences Parkade
just off East Mall. Parking is a flat $3 after 6 pm. See

Attendees range from absolute newcomers to UNIX wizards.

We've applied for incorporation under the BC Societies Act,
and preparations for the Linux presentation to UBC Computer
Science and Engineering students on 25 Feb 1999 are
underway. We're also planning our first foray into Linux
training - local tutorials conducted in support of the
web-based Linux 102 training course organized by
Henry White. Start date for the course: 1 March 1999.

All About Uninterruptible Power Systems Neal Hayden

Systems will answer all these questions and more.
After presenting an overview of Best Power,
Neal will discuss power quality issues and describe
the capabilities of Best's line of Uninterruptible
Power Systems. He will explain one's connectivity
options using RS232 & SNMP and options for setting
up a UPS on a network. He will conclude with a brief
Question & Answer session.

with Linux Jeff Alami
Neal Hayden shipped a Best Power UPS to Jan and Jeff
about a week before the meeting. Now they'll show you
how they set it up to work with Linux. Watch as they
pull the plug and the system broadcasts a warning
before gracefully shutting down.
