Regrets:

Bill Gillespie bill@gillespie.bc.ca
----------------------------------------------------

1. COMDEX - Statement of Revenue and Expenses
2. VanLUG - Statement of Revenue and Expenses

We're in good financial shape, but Joe and Bill still require additional
time to put together a formal statement.

3. VanLUG - Status of Incorporation

The BC government has all our paperwork. We're awaiting their response.

4. Web sites - Status and Plans

Ryan and Lee don't find the workload associated with maintaining the
Linux in BC site to be too daunting, but would like to encourage VanLUG
members to submit articles, product reviews, or other content for
posting. Descriptions of how one's home or work network is configured
or how one is using Linux (or other free Unices) for work, school,
community service, or hobby applications would also be useful.

5. InstallFest III?

Many people have asked about Installfest III. It could take many
different forms, including:

* an Edge Router installfest complete with a tutorial presentation on
Edge Router configuration, expert help in testing and configuring one's
machine, and a SATAN-like test network for verifying the performance of
the result

* a members-only configurefest, held once per month in Brock Hall Annex
(site of InstallFest II), for people with vexing problems that require
help from others

* a public InstallFest like InstallFests I and II, complete with demos
and presentations

Our choice will depend on the interests of the group and whether VanLUG
members willing to help organize and participate in such events step
forward.

6. Linux presentations to external organizations

Given the tremendous success of our CICSR presentation on "Installing,
Securing, and Using Linux", we plan to take the show on the road. Our
first step will be to turn the three talks into a set of canned,
polished presentations which anyone in the group can give. In order to
ease the task of maintaining and updating the presentations, we'll do
them all in LaTeX format. VanLUG members who are interested in
participating or have connections to external organizations that might
be interested in having us speak are urged to step forward.

7. Linux course offerings?

Several VanLUG members are participating in the Linux 102 web-based
course (http://basiclinux.hypermart.net/). Bill will announce the
schedule for the local discussion group during the next few days.

8. Public Relations, Corporate sponsorships and discounts

Jeff Alami is currently the point of contact for the Best Power UPS user
group discount being offered through EXIM Canada.

It's been suggested that we start a public relations SIG to handle the
task of advertising VanLUG meetings and events, distributing brochures
and posters, tracking corporate sponsorships, and soliciting user group
discounts. VanLUG members who are interested in helping out in this
area are urged to step forward.

9. Other business

It's been suggested that VanLUG invite the UBC Amateur Radio Society to
jointly sponsor our monthly meetings and thereby add significantly to
the pool of potential guest speakers. There's already a lot of strong
overlap between the two groups (e.g., high speed TCP/IP wireless
networks, Linux software for amateur radio). If the group agrees, we
would schedule two guest speakers at each meeting: The first would be
wireless-oriented while the second would be Linux/UNIX-oriented.
