Hi, all.
(Please forward this announcement to anyone who might be interested.)
Due to growing interest in Linux in Science and Engineering, we've
started the SciEng mailing list. The list will allow users of Linux
science and engineering software to meet, share ideas, and discuss
problems. These may range from porting Fortran code from mainframe or
Windows environments to configuring the software on the Linux in
Astronomy CDROM's to using Linux-based neural network software to model
problems in anthropology and sociology.
To subscribe, send a message to majordomo@gweep.bc.ca with the words
"subscribe scieng" in the body.

An example of the sort of software that we may discuss on this list is
IBM's (just-released) techexplorer hypermedia browser software for Linux
on Intel.
Developed by IBM Research, it's a plug-in for Netscape Navigator and
Microsoft Internet Explorer which enables the display of TeX, LaTeX, and
MathML documents and the publishing of interactive mathematical and
scientific material on the Web. It also runs under AIX, SGI IRIX, Sun
Solaris, Windows 95/98, and Windows NT.
New in Version 2.5 PR 1 is support for almost all of the
content tags for MathML. More features from LaTeX have also
been added, including most of the picture environment.
The Introductory Edition is available free of charge. The Professional
Edition costs as little as US$28 (from Indelible Blue).
See http://www.software.ibm.com/network/techexplorer/ for more details!
