Note: It's by no means certain at this point that we will change our
meeting location. At this point, we're still trying to determine
whether it's even possible to arrange space elsewhere.
However, in preparation for the VanLUG Steering Committee Meeting on
Wednesday evening, I'm conducting a *non-binding* straw poll. Please
erase YES/ or /NO as appropriate and send the portion between the "cut
here" lines back to me. If you have any comments, please include them
in the space indicated.
Thanks!

YES/NO 1. Would you be in favour of monthly meetings being scheduled
from 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm instead of from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm as at present?
YES/NO 2. Would you attend monthly meetings if they were held at BCIT
rather than UBC?
YES/NO 3. Would you attend monthly meetings if they were held at SFU
Harbour Centre rather than UBC?

Discussion:
1. Would you be in favour of monthly meetings being scheduled from 7:30
pm - 9:00 pm instead of from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm as at present?
Rationale: Most groups around town seem to start their meetings at 7:30
pm. Some people have suggested that it's a real push to try to get out
to the meeting by 7:00 pm. (As it is, we hardly ever start on time as
we wait for people to trickle in.)
Con: Our meetings would be 30 minutes shorter.
2. Would you attend monthly meetings if they were held at BCIT rather
than UBC?
Rationale: Just about anybody on the North Shore and east of
Granville, especially East Vancouver, Burnaby, Coquitlam, New
Westminster, Port Moody, Surrey, etc. would find BCIT much
more convenient, particularly because it's just a few blocks
south of the 401, and easily accessible via Grandview Highway,
Lougheed Highway, Canada Way, and Willingdon.
Con: I'm afraid that anyone who lives downtown, west of
Granville, in Richmond, and particularly the UBC Campus would
find BCIT much less convenient than UBC. Also, while parking
at BCIT is cheaper ($1.50 for the evening rather than $3.00
at UBC) it's also much harder to find.
3. Would you attend monthly meetings if they were held at SFU Harbour
Centre rather than UBC?
Rationale: SFU Harbour Centre is just a few blocks away from a SkyTrain
Station, the Seabus terminal, and many of the major bus routes. Parking
downtown is fairly inexpensive after 6 pm. It's still relatively
convenient to people who live downtown, west of Granville, and the UBC
Campus while being a bit more convenient than UBC for people on the
North Shore and east of Granville.
Con: SFU Harbour Centre is somewhat farther away than BCIT for people in
Burnaby, Coquitlam, New Westminster, Port Moody, Surrey, etc. Also, we
don't yet have a contact person from SFU lined up to make the necessary
booking arrangements. Nevertheless, I'm mentioning this as an option.
Thanks.
