Hi, all.
Thanks for the tremendous feedback concerning a possible new (and
perhaps more accessible) location for our monthly meetings.
Several people have suggested that we follow the Brunix example and hold
VanLUG meetings in the western and eastern part of the city (e.g., SFU
Harbour Centre and BCIT, respectively) on alternate months. (A decision
that MacDonald and Laurier would be proud of, I might add.) Of course,
this assumes that we can get access to these locations.
Ted Powell has pointed out yet another alternative meeting location: the
BC Hydro Auditorium, 6911 Southpoint Drive, in Burnaby. It's just off
Kingsway and adjacent to the Edmonds SkyTrain station. Moreover,
the Vancouver GIS Users Group (which formerly met at BCIT) is meeting
there on Wednesday evening (7 April). As Ted has noted, this gives us
an excellent chance to check out the facility.

THUS, INSTEAD OF MEETING AT UBC, the steering committee will meet

at the BC Hydro Auditorium at 7:15 pm on Wednesday, April 7. We'll sit
through the first short GIS presentation (which starts at 7:30 pm)
"a short presentation and demo on 'Operational GIS Tools for
Operational Forestry' by Harold Hunt and Andrew Ross,
representatives from Timberline Forestry Consultants"
then leave to continue the steering committee meeting at a nearby pub
which Ted has recommended.
Agenda items include:
1. VanLUG financial statement
2. Monthly meetings - content/speakers?
3. Monthly meetings - location?
4. Web site - local content?
5. Web site - online membership form?
6. Joint BCIT/VanLUG InstallFest @ BCIT
- 1 May 1999??
If you plan to attend (all are welcome!) please let me know!
