Agenda
------------------------------------------------------
7:30 - 7:40 VanLUG News and Announcements
- Dave Michelson
7:40 - 8:05 BRU - A Backup and Restore Utility
for Linux
- Ya'akov N. Miles
Ya'akov will share his experiences with BRU and help
you decide whether to dump tar and gzip for something
a little more sophisticated!
8:05 - 8:20 BLAS - Basic Linear Algebra Subprograms
for Linux
- Dave Michelson
The natural language for many mathematical and scientific operations is
that of linear algebra, and the natural objects are matrices and
vectors. During the past few years, Intel has actively supported
development of highly optimized Linux versions of the Basic Linear
Algebra Subprograms for the Pentium and Pentium II processor
architectures. The results have allowed users to improve the
performance of some standard science and engineering software by a
factor of five!
8:20 - 8:25 Break
8:25 - 9:00 VMware - A Virtual Machine for Linux
- Petar Knezevich and Brian Edmonds
VMware software is truly revolutionary software that allows one to run
multiple operating systems (including Microsoft's offerings)
concurrently on a single PC. It requires neither repartitioning nor
rebooting, and allows one to interoperate among each of these operating
systems. Petar and Brian have been experimenting with the free beta
version of VMware and have some interesting stories to tell.
9:00 Prize Draw
- Kim Kulak
